Greetings from 2012! I’d like to start out the year with a little story, a story about what it takes to get what you want, regardless of your fears, doubts or an entire 747 full of pissed off adults staring you down.
Check out this little kid with giant cajones:

Wow! Go little kid! This goes well with that video going around with the little girl railing against the gender stereotypes at the toy store…It also reminds me of that passage in ‘Feel the Fear & Do It Anyway’ where the author talks about how her mother constantly told her to be careful, when she should have been saying, ‘take risks!’ And as a parent of a strong-willed 3 year old this shit is tricky to navigate! I always go the route of over-explaining the situation until she’s looking at me bored and glassy-eyed. Then I know she realizes two things: 1) her behavior was problematic in some way, albeit not hugely horrible and 2) It’s too complicated for her to understand fully at this moment. It’s exhausting, but better than ‘cuz I said so…’ (I hope) Happy new year!
Thanks Jen, I needed that pep talk! It just strengthened my own New Year’s Resolve, to BE an artist, no matter WHAT! And stay positive about it. Just wrote it down again in a new way. ; )
I love watching all the cool things yer doin lately!,
